The Belgian American Educational Foundation (BAEF) encourages applications for
fellowships for research during the academic year 2025-2026 at the BRON Research Centre of
Musea Brugge.
The BRON is the new research centre of Musea Brugge, which includes Groeningemuseum,
Museum Sint-Janshospitaal and Gruuthusemuseum in Bruges, Belgium.
Research projects that relate to the core strengths of the museums and focus on works of art from
the collections (paintings, drawings, prints, sculptures, and decorative arts) are welcomed, in
particular projects pertaining to early Netherlandish painting and the “long 19th century”.
Students whose dissertations will particularly benefit from collection, library and archival
holdings in Bruges and Belgium are strongly encouraged to apply.
The BAEF-BRON fellowship is an outright non-renewable grant carrying a twelve-month stipend
of $ 30,000 for Master’s or Ph.D. students. In addition to the stipend, the Foundation will defray
the cost of health insurance in Belgium through its group policy.
Application forms can be downloaded from the BAEF website at: http://www.baef.us
In addition to a completed application form, applicants must furnish undergraduate and graduate
transcripts, a brief autobiographical statement, a plan of study or research, and 3 letters of
recommendation.
Completed applications for the 2025-2026 fellowships must be submitted as electronic
documents in pdf format attached to an email sent no later than October 31, 2024, to
