London and Cambridge
2024 marks the first time in the forty-year history of the Historians of Netherlandish Art that the Conference will be held in the UK. Cultural, political and economic exchange has been pivotal to the histories of the UK, The Netherlands, and Belgium and these relationships have taken on new significance and have new potential as the UK renegotiates its relationship with Europe after Brexit. ‘Britain and the Low Countries: Cultural Exchange Past, Present & Future’ comprises forty interdisciplinary panels along with workshops in many of the most important collections of Netherlandish art in the UK. This Conference highlights the significance of these key historical relationships and aims to forge dynamic new connections with European colleagues.
Paper sessions and evening events take place in Cambridge on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 July with workshops in Cambridge and London on Wednesday 10 July and a roundtable in Cambridge on Saturday 13 July. As part of registration to the conference, we are delighted to offer two receptions and a banquet for all registered participants at the picturesque King’s College Dining Hall.

Workshop Registration
Please note that registration for Workshops in Cambridge and London on Wednesday 10 July will open separately. All Workshops are scheduled to end in the afternoon, allowing for time to settle in Cambridge for the following day’s Sessions. An announcement will be sent via our newsletter and platforms when Workshop Registration has opened.
Conference Registration
Registration for the HNA 2024 conference is now open and available here. Please note that the HNA 2024 Conference is in-person only.
Your ticket includes the following:
- Access to a choice of 40 Conference Sessions
- 2 Keynotes
- Access to expert-led Workshops in Cambridge and London
- Lunch on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 July
- Tea, coffee, and refreshments on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 July
- Receptions on Thursday 11 July and Friday 12 July
- A banquet at King’s College Dining Hall on Friday 12 July for all attendees

Conference Tickets
Once registered, you will receive a ticket from Eventbrite with the email you have provided. This will grant access to all of the Conference offers, including Workshops and Sessions, lunch and refreshments, 2 receptions, and 1 dinner. Please hold a copy of the ticket for Conference Registration on site in July.

Conference tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Accommodation
Accommodation in Cambridge is in high demand and we recommend you book early. King’s College, Cambridge, is offering a limited number of rooms exclusively for HNA Conference delegates. The College is located in the heart of Cambridge between King’s Parade and the River Cam and houses, among other outstanding Netherlandish works, Rubens’ late altarpiece, The Adoration of the Magi of 1633.
King’s College offers single-bed and double-bed rooms for three nights. All rooms include an en-suite bathroom, and breakfast in King’s College Dining Hall. We ask that all guests who avail of the accommodation purchase a Conference ticket. Please also note the following information:
Check in: Wednesday 10 July from 2.00pm
Check out: Saturday 13 July by 9.30am
Breakfast: 8.00-9.15am
Rooms at King’s College can be booked through the Registration Portal here (scroll to the bottom of the ticket listings).
There is also limited availability to stay for one extra night on either side of the conference (Tuesday 9 July and/or Saturday 13 July). The same check-in, check-out, and breakfast schedules apply as above.
On the Conference Registration Portal, you can indicate whether you wish to take advantage of this opportunity. As soon as room availability is confirmed, further details will be sent about completing the booking of additional nights.
King’s College will be the base of the Conference, however if you would wish to source accommodation elsewhere, this can be done through Booking.com, Airbnb, and College Rooms.

Luggage Storage
King’s College, Cambridge, will have some space to deposit luggage, as also will the Cambridge Law Faculty, on 11–12 July.
There are designated luggage storage spots in Cambridge and London, including the main stations.
