In celebration of the 350th anniversary of Rembrandt’s death, a new documentary titled Looking for Rembrandt examines his life and career across three one-hour episodes. The documentary was produced by Glasgow-based firm Matchlight Limited, directed by Tim Niel, and features notable stage and screen actor Toby Jones voicing the artist.
Numerous scholars in academia, curators, conservators, artists and collectors were interviewed for the series, shedding new light on the vicissitudes of Rembrandt’s life and character, and the nature of his production. The first episode premiered Tuesday, April 9 on BBC4, and will be aired again on April 12. The second and third episodes will follow in subsequent weeks. A full schedule can be found on this page from BBC4. Within the UK, these episodes can be watched live and for a period of time following the broadcast. They are not available outside the UK. A brief trailer produced by the BBC is available here and another from Matchlight previewing the first episode can be found here.
