Gaspar de Crayer (1584-1669), once regarded as a renowned painter, has become largely forgotten since the nineteenth century. His style is comparable to the pomp and circumstance that is associated with Rubens and the refined elegance of Van Dyck.
This exhibition will include international loans from prestigious collections. It will be the first time that De Crayer’s portraits of Philips IV of Spain from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and from the Palacio de Viana in Madrid can be seen together.
