Online event: 25 February 2021
The Leiden Department of Art History organizes the online presentation of Amy Golahny’s Rembrandt. Studies in his Varied Approaches to Italian Art, published by Brill.
Italian masters
The author will talk about Rembrandt’s engagement with imagery by Italian masters, which varies from pragmatic adaptations to critical commentary and conceptual rivalry, and will explain how these categories are not mutually exclusive but provide a strategy for discussion. Eric Jan Sluijter and Jeroen Giltaij will reflect on the new insights given in Golahny’s book to the oeuvre of the most famous master of the seventeenth-century Dutch Republic.
