HNA members in good standing for at least two years are eligible to apply for a 2022 HNA Fellowship. The topic of the research project must be within the field of Northern European art ca. 1400-1800. Up to $2,000 may be requested for purposes such as: travel to collections or research facilities, purchase of photographs or reproduction rights, subvention of a publication, curatorial project, or a project in the digital humanities. We also will consider requests for coverage of childcare or other related costs to make research and writing time possible. Preference will be given to projects well underway.
HNA will award at least one fellowship in each of these categories:
- to a doctoral candidate, to be applied toward completion of the dissertation project.
- to a junior or mid-career candidate who received a PhD degree within the past ten years.
- to a candidate from a background underrepresented in the field of Northern European art history and/or whose research topic centers issues of race and inclusion.
Please clarify which, if any, categories you qualify for above. Senior scholars carrying out research projects are also encouraged to apply and will be given consideration.
Winners will be notified in February 2022, with funds to be distributed by April. The application should consist of: (1) a short description of project (1-2 pages); (2) budget; (3) list of further funds applied/received for the same project; and (4) current C.V. Doctoral applicants must include a letter of recommendation from an advisor, which can be emailed separately by the referee under the subject line: HNA Fellowship Letter for [Candidate’s Name].
Applications should be compiled into a single pdf and sent via e-mail by January 10, 2022, to Ashley West, Vice-President, Historians of Netherlandish Art. E-mail: ashley.west@temple.edu
