The New Netherland Institute (NNI) is now accepting presentation proposals for our 42nd Annual Conference, which will be hosted by the Hudson River Valley Institute at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York on October 5, 2019. The program committee welcomes proposals on any aspect of the seventeenth-century Dutch colony, including projects in other media such as films, online exhibits, and other digital projects. Proposals that highlight the legacy of New Netherland are also encouraged.
Proposals will be selected based on their contributions to New Netherland scholarship as well as how they fit into an emerging theme. Please submit proposals of about 300 words and a one-page CV to nni@newnetherlandinstitute.org
Please note that a limited amount of funds will be available to help defray the cost of attendance for speakers. Details will be provided when an applicant is notified of an accepted proposal.
For more than four decades, the New Netherland Institute-an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organization-and its affiliates have helped shed light on the long-neglected history of the settlements that laid the foundation for much of today’s mid-Atlantic region. NNI supports the New Netherland Research Center in partnership with the New York State Office of Cultural Education, the parent agency of the State Library and State Archives.
The Hudson River Valley Institute at Marist College is the academic arm of the Hudson River Valley National Heritage Area. Its mission is to study and to promote the Hudson River Valley and to provide educational resources for heritage tourists, scholars, elementary school educators, environmental organizations, the business community, and the general public. Its many projects include the publication of the Hudson River Valley Review and the management of a dynamic digital library and leading regional portal site.
