Call for presentations: New Netherland Institute’s 43rd Annual Conference

NOTE: Deadline extended to May 5, 2020.  A decision on whether the conference will procede as scheduled will be made in late spring.

We want to see your presentation proposal for our 43rd Annual Conference, which will convene in New York City above the African Burial Ground National Monument on the 24th of October 2020. Companion events will be held elsewhere in the city on Friday the 23rd.

This year the conference’s theme will be race and slavery in North America’s Dutch communities. The program committee welcomes both individual and panel proposals for a broad range of presentations that help us understand not only the complex histories of race and slavery in the seventeenth-century Dutch colony of New Netherland but also its legacy and how it has lingered in the public imagination.

To this end, we invite proposals from academic historians, educators, archaeologists, historic site specialists, and others. Please submit an abstract of about 300 words and a one-page CV to nni@newnetherlandinstitute.org by May 5, 2020
