The Board invites members to recommend host cities for the next conference, to be scheduled in 2027.
HNA conferences customarily rotate between North America and Europe, and since the last host cities have been Amsterdam/The Hague and Cambridge/London, the Board’s preference would be for the next conference to take place in America. However, given the increasingly global aspects of study in our field, the Board will not preclude proposals from other locations in the world.
Please note that local personnel are expected to be the primary organizers of the event. They select the organizational and program committees, choose the conference venue, search for institutional sponsorship, and serve as hosts for the conference. They also liaise with the president of HNA, keeping him/her apprised of developments on the ground. The conference generally takes place in May, June, or July, but an autumn date would be feasible if it coincides with a relevant event or exhibition and doesn’t overlap with the Sixteenth Century Studies Conference (generally held in late October).
Please explain briefly why the city is being proposed, focusing on these two criteria: first, the presence of institutions such as schools and museums that could host lectures, panels, and workshops; second, the availability of hotels at several price bands and, ideally, student accommodation.
Identify the persons who will head the organizational and program committees. Please include CVs.
Finally, we would also like to know about any events or exhibitions of special interest to our membership, scheduled to take place during the conference.
Interested parties may discuss the general guidelines and expectations for hosting conferences with HNA officers and board members at the HNA Conference in Cambridge/London.
Proposals should be addressed to the President of HNA, Walter Melion (walter.melion@emory.edu). The deadline for submission of proposals is July 31st, 2024.
