I am a professional that has spent his career in museum administration. I am in my mid-70s and my specialty is northern renaissance art. I have amassed a collection of 500 to 700 standard reference volumes, mostly from 1970 to the present. I have focused on this time period because of the high quality of book publishing in the last 30 or 40 years. Of course, most of the previous research is referenced in these new volumes. The purpose was to make it unnecessary to take a trip to a library to check a citation or a reference. Besides, most earlier material could be referenced on Jstor. I have also amassed several thousand journal articles in the cloud which I now spend more time with due to failing eyesight. I need to find a buyer to whom I could send the collection and expect a reasonable price. My purpose is twofold; firstly, to save my wife problems if something were to happen to me, and, to put these books back into circulation in an area where they would be appreciated. At first I thought of Boston due to the new center at the BFA. I thought of hiring a graduate student to catalog the collection. I think that would cost me a good portion of what I might receive for the books. That doesn’t seem practical. Hopefully the price will be reasonable but that is not my primary concern. Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you for your consideration.
