Dr. Christoph Schölzel in the paintings conservation department at the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden is restoring Johannes Vermeer’s “Girl Reading a Letter at an Open Window.” Although the painting is well preserved, the surface is compromised from multiple applications of varnish and retouching. The Gemäldegalerie is documenting the restoration process on their website. For more information: https://gemaeldegalerie.skd.museum/en/research/vermeer/
