The Dutch Association for Paper Cutting is organizing a symposium on historic paper cutting art in public and private collections and the state of (art) historical research thereof in the Netherlands. The art of paper cutting has been practiced in the Netherlands for at least four centuries. Only a fraction of what was created during that period has stood the test of time. It is located in museum depots or hangs on the walls of individuals.
Program
The program (mostly in Dutch) includes the following speakers:
- Jan Peter Verhave, cutting art expert, collector and author of many articles about Dutch paper cutters, provides an overview of exhibitions and collection formation of cutting work since 1945.
- Maja Houtman, chairman of the Dutch Association for Paper Cutting, reflects on the creation and content of the website Knipperslexicon.nl.
- Tonnie Dieleman, researcher of the work of Jan Huijssoon alias Jan de Prentenknipper van Zeeland, talks about his life and meaning.
- Prof. Martha Peacock of Brigham Young University, Provo (UT, USA) discusses her study of Joanna Koerten, the Netherlands’ most famous cutter of the seventeenth century (in English).
