Dear HNA Members,
On 21 and 22 May 2026, MSK Ghent, in collaboration with the University of Antwerp (ARCHES), organizes a two-day symposium in conjunction with the exhibition Unforgettable. Women artists from Antwerp to Amsterdam, 1600–1750. The symposium highlights the often undervalued role of women artists in the Low Countries (1600–1750) and brings together researchers and professionals to discuss their work, networks, and legacy. You can find more information and the full program on the MSK-website.
The MSK took the exhibition as a momentum to research the women artists in its collection and increase their visibility in the collection presentation. Dr. Griet Bonne, curator of collection and research, will guide HNA members through the first results of the research project. She will highlight the works of these women artists and share some of the challenges and strategies regarding acquisition, research, presentation and mediation within a museological context.
Practical:
We will depart at 15h from the lobby of the main entrance of MSK. Backpacks and large bags will have to be stored beforehand. Please secure your entrance ticket for the permanent collection beforehand. The museum accepts ICOM cards.
Attendance will be limited to 20 people. A number of slots will be reserved for early career scholars.
If you want to join, send an email to koen.bulckens@kmska.be with ‘HNA visit’ in the subject heading.
Best regards,
Griet Bonne and Koen Bulckens
