IDEA (Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility)
Mission Statement:
Our work is motivated by our commitment to making the field of Dutch and Flemish art history more inclusive and equitable. Recognizing that HNA is a member organization, the subcommittee for inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) seeks to better identify and dismantle mechanisms of systemic and structural racism and discrimination endemic to our organization and our field, across academia, museums, and beyond.
Vision Statement:
IDEA establishes the following principal aims:
- To diversify our membership and provide support to BIPOC scholars and those from backgrounds underrepresented in our field.
- To elevate and prioritize underrepresented perspectives and understudied topics, and to acknowledge the past and continued grounding of our field in white, patriarchal, and able-bodied paradigms.
- To educate on the historical inequities that underlie the art we study and that continue to permeate the institutions that promote the study and preservation of Netherlandish art.
- To take advantage of intersectional opportunities to dismantle oppressive histories and structures and to create coalitions serving those aims.
