The Historians of Netherlandish Art will host two online dissertation forums during academic year 2023-2024, one on Friday, December 1st, 2023, 12:00-1:30 (EST), the other on Friday, May 5th, 2024, 12:00-1:30 (EST). Designed for graduate students whose dissertation topics have been approved by their respective departments, each of the two forums will feature four 10-minute presentations followed by Q & A. The student presentation should summarize the topic and major research questions, identify the primary archival sources (both visual and textual), and situate the project in relation to the relevant scholarship. The event is an opportunity to receive useful feedback on the dissertation project at an early stage of research and writing. Students in the first two years of dissertation work are eligible to apply.
Please send a prospectus either to Walter Melion (walter.melion@emory.edu) and/or Ashley West (ashley.west@temple.edu). The prospectus should be submitted in a single pdf and include the dissertation title and a one-paragraph abstract, a short-form C.V. (1-2 pages), and a brief letter from the dissertation superviser[s] certifying that the dissertation topic has been approved. The deadline for submission of these materials for review by the selection committee is Friday, September 29th.
Although participants should plan to attend both events, please indicate whether you have a preference for the December or May date.
