The JVDPPP website has now been greatly expanded with new and essential documents and information on the Antwerp panel makers whose marks can be found on the backs of panels painted on by Sir Peter Paul Rubens, Sir Anthony Van Dyck, Jacques Jordaens and other Flemish masters. Several of the newly added documents are published and translated for the very first time.
These include the original 1617 petition by the panel makers in the Antwerp Guild of Saint Luke requesting a law on panel making and marking, with drawn copies of their marks. In addition, four biographies of Antwerp panel makers and their families have been published, with photos of their marks, as well as a translated and updated version of Jan Van Damme’s ground-breaking 1990 Flemish article The Antwerp panel-makers and their marks.
