La Salle University Art Museum Will Deaccession 43 Paintings

The La Salle University Art Museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, announced on 2 January 2018 that it was deaccessioning 43 of  its 350 paintings to fund future University projects (not for the Art Museum). Among the paintings sold will be a few Netherlandish works, including a David Teniers II. The deaccession list can be found at: http://artcollection.lasalle.edu/graphics/Deaccessions_2018.pdf. The sale has been condemned by major national museum associations in the United states, the University’s Art History Department, and numerous alumni, students, and teachers as against museum ethics and breaking faith with donors. The sale is being handled by Christies.
