On Thursday, September 28, please join the American Friends of the Mauritshuis for a lecture and reception with Martine Gosselink, Director of the Mauritshuis. This fall, The Mauritshuis presents the exhibition: LOOT – 10 stories. A very topical subject, many museums in the Netherlands and abroad have been conducting research into the provenance of their collections in recent years. This concerns both art with a war past, stolen from Jewish owners, colonial looted art and art looted by French revolutionary troops. Martine’s lecture will focus on select works from the exhibition, including Rembrandt’s great self-portrait of 1669 in the Mauritshuis, to shed light on how understanding the history of objects can also help shape their future consideration.
