Maryan Ainsworth, Curator of European Paintings at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, has been appointed the Kress-Beinecke Professor at the Center for Advanced Study in the Visual Arts (CASVA) at the National Gallery in Washington. This professorship is made possible by the Samuel H. Kress Foundation and by a new endowment in honor of Frederick Beinecke, in recognition of his distinguished service on the Board of the National Gallery. Maryan’s tenure will be from mid-September to mid-May. Her research projects while at CASVA will comprise her continuing work on the online catalogue entries of the Met’s early Netherlandish paintings as well as a book she is writing to complement the entries. She also will be engaged with the group of seven predoctoral Fellows at CASVA.
