With New Splendour: The Crucified Thief by the Master of Flémalle in Context

Liebighaus Skulpturensammlung, Frankfurt, Germany

This exhibition is centered around a masterpiece of Netherlandish painting, “The Crucified Thief” by the Master of Flémalle. The painting underwent an extensive technical examination and conservation treatment, and the exhibition will bring to light new information and questions about this pivotal work. The painting will be exhibited with sculpture, panel painting, drawing and book illumination to place the monumental fragment in its visual and cultural context. In particular, the painting will be considered in relationship to the traditions of Netherlandish and German sculpture.
