A website dedicated entirely to Lodewijk de Vadder (1605-1655) has been launched. Little is known about the Flemish painter, draftsman, engraver and tapestry designer from Brussels. According to the website’s authors, the only elaborate study on the artist and his work is the unpublished thesis Lodewijk de Vadder (1605-1655) by Luc Geeroms, under the direction of Prof. Roger-Adolf D’Hulst, submitted in Dutch at the University of Ghent in 1985.
The new website www.lodewijkdevadder.net adds to the existing knowledge about Lodewijk de Vadder by documenting all known information about the artist in one place. In addition to a catalogue of works, which includes nearly 400 paintings and 150 drawings, the website contains a section about the life of De Vadder, lists of collections holding the artist’s works, as well as related auctions, art dealers, exhibitions, and an extensive bibliography.
The research for the website was carried out by Emmanuel de Cannart d’Hamale (Law Graduate and Philosophy Bachelor, Université Catholique de Louvain, Belgium) in collaboration with Dominique Bovet (Art History Graduate, Université de Lausanne, Switzerland).
