The University of Notre Dame announces the creation of the Provost’s Postdoctoral Fellowship, a university-wide initiative to support highly motivated scholars seeking to make a difference in the world. These prestigious fellowships target exceptional early-stage scholars seeking to advance their careers in an interdisciplinary academic environment. The College will appoint the fellows for one year, with the option of a one-year renewal. Each fellow will receive an annual salary of $75,000, and will work together with the host department and the director of postdoctoral studies in the College to identify a suitable primary research mentor. Additional co-mentors can also be appointed and must have an appointment at the University of Notre Dame. The host unit will provide research space. Fellows may teach up to one course per year in their host unit.
Monetary support will be coupled with faculty mentoring, professional development, and networking opportunities. The Provost’s Fellows will be part of a university-wide cohort of outstanding researchers who will meet regularly for social and academic enrichment. The Fellows will have an independent mentoring structure to review their progress and discuss future plans every six months. A sum of $15,000 will be placed under the control of the fellow to cover expenses related to independent research endeavors, training, and professional development. The Fellows will participate in a university-wide postdoctoral training program, a curriculum that enhances our postdoc’s research skills, career development, and social and personal skills. Specific advice on how to apply for and obtain jobs, and how to develop short- and long-term plans for career success will be an integral part of this program.
The Department of Art, Art History, and Design is a vibrant, multidisciplinary department offering graduate and undergraduate programs in studio art, art history, and design. We provide students with intellectually informed instruction in critical visual studies within the context of the liberal arts at an international Catholic research university.
We are particularly interested in welcoming a postdoctoral fellow in art history who can contribute to our department’s support of Notre Dame’s quest to become a more global institution. The division of Art History has strengths in the art of the Americas, and the Mediterranean. The program offers a Bachelor of Arts in Art History, as well as a Graduate Minor in Visual and Material Culture. Notre Dame’s Raclin Murphy Art Museum and the Hesburgh Library Special Collections offer excellent opportunities for research. The university’s centers and institutes such as the Medieval Institute, the Institute for Latino Studies, and the Kellogg Institute for International Studies showcase the breadth of our faculty’s interdisciplinary Scholarship.
