Art from the past—showing the ingenuity of people from across time and place—can propel conversations and inspire creative thinking, including about our changing environment. Pairing an art historian and expert in hydraulic engineering, we will look together at the role of water in our world and the centrality of the Netherlands and Boston in helping us think through the importance of sky and sea to our world in the past, present, and our future.
This event will be hosted on Zoom and include breakout groups for networking and brainstorming with experts from the Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston’s new Center for Netherlandish Art, and will feature special guests:
Bas Jonkman, Professor of Hydraulic Engineering, Delft University, the Netherlands
Alexandra Libby, Associate Curator of Northern Baroque Paintings, National Gallery of Art, Washington D.C.
