Symposium: Lumières sacrées, Lumières profanes, Dec. 18-19, 2019

Wednesday, 18th December 2019
Thursday 19th December 2019

INHA, Galerie Colbert, Salle Vasari
2 rue Vivienne, 75002
Paris

The dialectic of light and shadow is, since Antiquity, associated not only with the representation, but also with the origin of the artistic creation and the reflection on the Art (myth of the Cave, myth of Callirrhoe).

Our symposium will place the issue of light at the heart of the changes – theoretical, scientific, technical and practical – that characterize the modern era both in the field of painting (Caravaggio, La Tour …) and engraving (Rembrandt, Callot), than in the musical field (Monteverdi), without forgetting architecture and stained glass, but also textiles.

Organized by the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne.
