A one-day international symposium focusing on Rembrandt’s painting The Conspiracy of the Batavians under Claudius Civilis, on long-term loan to the Nationalmuseum from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts.
The program will discuss the painting in the context of the commission for the Amsterdam Town Hall, its history in Swedish collections, the painting technique, changes in composition, the painting’s conservation history, and its place in current Rembrandt research. The speakers will include conservators, curators and scientists from Stockholm, Amsterdam and London who will report on the results of recent research.
