The Art and Art History Department at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a Visiting Assistant Professor of Early Modern Art (1300-1700) for a limited, 1-year appointment (sabbatical replacement). The candidate must be able to teach both parts of the Western Art History survey, a variety of upper-level courses (at times mixed undergraduate and graduate) in Renaissance and Baroque Art, as well as in one of the following secondary areas:
- American Art (including African American, Latin American, or Native American)
- Contemporary Art
- African Art
In addition, some graduate and undergraduate advising and service are required.
We are particularly interested in applicants who combine historical methodologies with an interest in larger theoretical frameworks such as postcolonial theory, critical race studies, African American Studies, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have earned their Ph.D. by the start date of August 15, 2021.
College-level teaching experience beyond graduate assistantships.
